Simplicity, enhanced

A couple of weekends ago, I fell in love. Head over heels.

With this enchanting church in Ljusterö. (Try getting your tongue around that!)

Yes – this is the same church featured in my previous post…

Magical skies are the only decoration this simple wooden building needs.

The tower is framed with bare branches,

The setting sun lights up the snow,

A feeling of serenity falls.

The world is breathing in harmony.

There is no need to try to create a perfect world.

Just celebrate the one we already have.

  1. I certainly don’t mind seeing more of this church…it is fascinating! The steeple just draws my attention…so original. What is the name of it, so I can google it and find out the history behind it?
I hope you have a great day my dear!!!

  2. I completely understand your infatuation…the church is ethereal and tranquil.
There is a certain feel of purity over it – the blue and the white in perfect harmony.
Your images are as always breathtaking.;)

  3. It makes me think of that magical house (and scene) in Dr. Zhivago. The one that he and Laura live in during the winter. It’s one of those movie scenes that is forever stamped in my memory.

  4. What is it about churches that bring out the wicked in me? 😉
I love the last photo. Those branches look like bats all over the tower 😉

  5. WOW, Fi! I actually got chills looking at the steeple/branches photo. (And not because it’s darn cold here!) You have quite an eye for framing a scene.

  6. I looked at both posts. That church has a “presence” that is very compelling. The snow, and the subtle colors, and the shape which is misleadingly simple are wonderful.

    Great pics. I love them.

  8. We have a few splendid churches like that here in the Pacific North West, they always draw me to them — the simplicity of the structure perhaps, but the spiritual essence of the building speaks to my heart.

Your photographs are fabulous, I went back in time looking over as many as possible but will be back — your children the wasp story, funny, and your sweet dog, and the scenery, a beautiful way to spend my morning, now back to my tasks.

  11. Utrolig vakkert, og spesiellt den hvite kirka i vinterlandskap, virkelig flott. Det ser nesten ut tom om du har brukt en vidvinkel linse her jo, kjempeflott.

God helg til deg fra meg.

  13. I have no problem getting my tongue around that name, but then I’m a norwegian with much the same language 🙂

However, I quite agree: It is a beautiful piece of architecture set in charming surroundings.
