Wintry pastels

As you probably know by now, I love colour and light,

But they are not always possible to find.

A mild winter means getting to love the pastels of grey, as soft as silk;

The muted browns of sky and land;

And the dance of twirling snowflakes

When an Arctic storm rages in.

  1. Beautiful pictures, one and all. As usual. I really enjoy your last picture. Although it is a still there is a great sense of movement – snow and waves being buffeted by winds you cannot see but certainly can feel just by looking at it. It’s lack of color truly enhances the chill. Nicely done.

  6. Beautiful images. It looks like your weather is similar to ours. We had a mild winter until a couple of weeks ago. It has been snowing every day since last Saturday.

  8. Lady Fi,
    How beautifully you express the season!!
    Winter colors are melted in harmony.
    Texture is more smooth than silk.
    All photos have atmosphere of black and white ink painting.
    Stunning!!

  9. I agree with Miss Footloose. You are able to show us the beauty of a gray day, whereas so many would say, “Not again!” When will the sun come out. Thanks for that. Sonia.

  10. It’s easy to see why so many of the Dutch masters had such a subdued palette when you have a mild winter like we’ve been having. On the other hand, they have gorgeous springs and summers…makes me wonder if they just painted in the winter!
