Moody icons

The first day at Disneyland, Paris, was like walking in a movie set.

Blue skies, the iconic Disney castle shining in the hot hot sun.

And as it was early – before the park opened to the public – there weren’t that many people.

Great – I’ll bring my camera along tomorrow, I thought to myself.

So I did.

Of course, by then it was cool and cloudy (perfect weather really for all-day fun).

The moody skies were a good background for the castle, where discreet repairs were going on around the back.

Just before entering the castle, I turned back to see a dramatic sight.

Sometimes, moody skies really are much better than sunny ones.

  1. For sure! Give me grey skies over sunny ones ant day for that great shot! I find the grey helps to ‘pop’ the colours more naturally than does the sun.
That last shot….I rest my case!

  2. Those clouds look ominous (which make for great pics but not necessarily fun at the theme park!)! Hopefully they didn’t ruin any of the fun although by your faces in the previous pics you had plenty of fun!

  3. The last pic I love the most. Have been several times to Disney in L.A. to sing in the huge choir for Christmas -don’t know if they still do that -so I also saw the back side (all gray!) of all the beautiful sets. This is Jesh, your FB friend:)

  4. WE sometimes never get the second chance that we look for. BUT these are wonderful shots. Make me want to go to Disneyland. The last time I went was 1998 when my nephews and nieces were school aged, now they are all grown-up.

  5. Wonderful perspectives.

And what a colourful castle. With such landscapes the world must truly promise to be a better place to live and long for.

  6. The moody skies made the perfect backdrop for the colorful buildings!! What a great tour you’ve taken us on, and as always, your photos are superb. I do love Disneyland although I haven’t been to one in a number of years, my family had several terrific vacations there over the years! Thanks for the memories! Have a great weekend!

  7. Moody skies are wonderful- even in Disneyland! That third shot reminds me of a dramatic moment in Sleeping beauty where the step-mother sets to fight the prince as a dragon!! Oh, and guy in bright yellow up in the crane is VERY, discreet… was he really fixing the castle or peeping through the princess’ window?

  8. Dramatic clouds are more interesting than blue-all-over skies, I agree, but I think you just end up taking photos with a different atmosphere!

  9. Sounds like you had a great time at Disney World. Though sunny skies are nice, it is a lot cooler when the sun is behind the clouds. Great shots of that magical castle. When I was in Bavaria, I visited King Ludwig’s castle or Neuschwanstein Castle which was the “inspiration” for the Disney Castles. It was an amazing place. Have a great weekend. Mickie 🙂

  10. Just remember it’s an artificial world that never existed. Even the magic kingdom castle is modeled on a palace in Bavaria built by a mad king. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

  12. Fun for me to see Disneyland Paris and compare to the original Disneyland. I wonder if they get crowded? Are there as many rides as California Disneyland? Is the food like in the U.S.?

  13. Did you feel like Cinderella! I think her castle is white and blue here in the States..but I could be wrong it has been many years since I have been there. I did Space Mountain once..that is all then we rode some tram ride around while the girls went time after time:)
