Hidden beauty

November is a dull grey month in Sweden. The sun has forgotten how to shine and the trees softly drop their burden of leaves.

And yet, in secret nooks and crannies, hidden along untrodden paths, you can find spots of beauty.

The smile of a friend, the laughter of a child or a bridge made out of leaves.

Even those familiar spots that I visit daily suddenly look different, clothed as they are in the soft November light, and shining with their carpet of gold.

Perhaps November isn’t such a dull month after all … if we can only remember to see.

  1. Stunning photos. Such warm hues amongst the grey. I have been up in your neck of the woods in November and it is dark and grey, yet there probably many such beautiful sights as well. Keep your head held up, the Christmas season of lights is just around the corner.

  2. What a beautiful carpet of gold – you have seasons, we have constant neon and November is like any month, except cold. It was freezing today at 17 C.

That Oscar is something else. Some dogs just don’t like living in packs, but want all the attention – they’re usually very sweet.

  3. Now that first photograph is simply smashing!
There are two little red trees outside my flat, about 20 metres from my building. They look magical. I think they are covered in red berries and the branches look black because of the constant rain. I should go have a closer look during these brief hours of weak light.
Didn’t fall asleep until 4.30 so my own light is a bit dimmed as well. Hopefully I can do something useful & beautiful anyway.

  4. I too have trouble finding beauty in November – congratulations for your very photogenic success. I love the contract in the second photo…but still, I can’t help longing for spring.

  5. I love leafy bridges and carpeted paths. You’re right, there’s a lot of beauty if we remember to look. Beautiful photos! I really like your angle on the bridge.

  6. Thanks for the message about hidden beauty. A good reminder to look past the obvious for the beauty that is everywhere.

  7. A week ago, there was a bright red tree and a bright yellow tree, on different streets. Both screamed, “take my picture,” as they stood out among an ocean of palm trees. I live in southern California, as you know. Great photos LadyFi.

  8. Dog~gone~it, this Ozarks farm chick has been tryin’ to uncover the beauty of my diamond. ‘ Lost it yesterday and I’ve looked all over. The problem is that I went to the city, then did outside chores, carried in wood, cleaned the fireplace, defrosted the freezer…..and the list goes on. In almost 37 yrs. this is #4, don’t know if I can get Hubby to cough up another one.

Ya’ll have a fantastic day and if ya run into any diamond lords just send ’em my way!!!!

  9. Oh yes, November in the north is a month t treasure, still giving up a wealth of colour before the veil of white vovers all. I would love to be there in the morning mists and glow of wet leaves rather than sweltering here in the dry heat at 43C amongst dried up roses.

  10. Oh my, that picture of the lake … just gorgeous. Looks like the perfect place to sit a spell and just soak up all the beauty. I seriously need to clear a space of time this w/e to do just that!
