Of snowy bikes and Christmas trees

My daughter and I visited Stockholm during the last weekend

Before school and work started.

The sky was heavy with the promise of more snow.

The pastel buildings looked like cakes

Topped with icing.

(Look at the height of the city’s Christmas tree – 38 metres tall

And decorated with 5,000 lights!)

Fairy tale buildings

Brightened the gloomy sky;

And optimism was not lost

In the knee-deep snow!

(Not sure if that cyclist ever managed to cycle home though!)

  1. Stockholm really does look like a fairy-tale city, Fiona. It’s on my list of places to go. No plans yet, however. Sigh.
We can only go on old-dog-friendly places, and then only if Lindy is up to it. As long as we have a blind, elderly dog, we won’t be doing any major travel. Maybe we’d drive to Seattle and up to Vancouver to see my family, because my young brother hasn’t been well, but that’s about it. I do have an overseas travel list, and Scandinavia is right up there near the top.
Now I must post something for Our World.

  2. Picture-postcard perfect, Fiona! Your beautifully captured images make me want to take the next plane to Stockholm so I can experience that wintry wonderland. It looks GORGEOUS!

I cannot believe how TALL that tree is!

    The bike shot is AWESOME!

Thank you so much for sharing one of my favorite seasons, my friend! It made me smile 🙂

  3. I always love getting your pictures in my inbox. I’m sorry I fail to comment and tell you that but they always brighten my day. And it’s been wonderful to see your children growing and the joy of your lovely dogs. Thank you so much for the work you do to make the world a more beautiful place! Cheers, Danette

  4. Hi Fiona,
Stockholm is one of my favorite cities i the world. I was there many times, last in 2013. My daughter visited Stockholm in December together with her boyfriend and made photos of this fabulous Christmas tree and Gamla Stan and so on…
Your photos are like a Winter fairy tale. Amazing !
    Best regards, Synnöve
