The silver lullaby

Do you remember the joys of childhood rain —

How it used to call out your name as it thundered down

In a deafening chorus of music?

Rain was always warm back then

When it sounded like a silver lullaby

And strung the trees with its musical bells.

Even now it calls out my name

Asking me to join my childhood self with my daughter

As we twirl and dance in the rain.

  1. What a beautiful post, full of love and the caress of gentle spring rain… So purifying, yet so very whimsical at the same time.;)
    Beautiful photography as always,

  2. Love the joy and dance in your daughter’s face and movement. What a contrast from my post about eight-year-old girls and when “looks” takes over their lives.

  4. I grew up in a wet, rainy area and never thought of it like that… but now that you put it so musically, a summer rain did call us all outdoors to play.

  5. Oh how I remember playing in the rain as a child. Never worried about catching a cold or anything else …simply enjoying the moment. Just goes to show what over-thinking can do to one’s soul.

  8. I love your poetical words where rain is depicted so gentle and lovely! In Japan, rice planting started and we feel rain is blessed.
Beautiful smile of your daughter tells us all!
Thank you for sharing. Have a nice day.

  9. the second to last shot really shows the rain. I was soaked as if I had been dropped into a lake a year ago in May. I didn’t want to get that wet but after you do what are you going to do about but enjoy the wet. Nice post.

  13. The rain in Colorado is always cold- where I grew up as a girl it was warm and we would dance in the rain and splash in the puddles. It was delicious. I miss that! It’s lovely to see the picture of your daughter dancing in the rain!! Thanks!

  14. I love your daughter’s joyful expression of spring rain and your way of capturing the rain. The smell of soil and leaves in the rain and the pattering sound are nice. I don’t mind torrential rain, if only I’m inside and enjoy watching it.

  15. Great photos, so full of life and joy. We don’t get a lot of rain around here, and when it’s raining there’s usually lightning, so we don’t get to go out in the rain much.

  16. I do remember. My cousin and I would put on adult sized rubber boots and slickers and dance around in the rain. When we got wet and cold, we’d go swimming in the lake. The water always felt warmer when it was raining. We felt very adventurous.

  19. Brings back the joys of childhood! Also reminds me of the days I lived in the Cayman Islands (1975-1997)…for part of the time I lived in a house with a corrugated roof and there was nothing lovelier than the sound of the rain on that roof!
