Fruits, nuts and lemurs

During my visit to England this summer, we went to a zoo park, which is famous for its collection of lemurs.

The newly-introduced black lemur immediately seized domination of the flock. And with eyes like that, who would dare cross him?

At feeding time, he ate first while the other lemurs looked on.

Then came the familiar ring-tailed lemurs, who quickly gobbled up the bulk of the fruit and vegetables.

The two very rare – and timid – red lemurs looked on hopefully, waiting for their turn to eat up the leftovers.

I guess it’s easy to see where we humans get our ideas of power and hierarchy from.

Just like lemurs, I love fruit and nuts… but that old adage springs to mind: You are what you eat.

I wonder what that makes me?

  1. Fruit and nuts, eh? No comment on that. LOL
That black lemur is TOO scary-looking. They might have to give him his own quarters so the others can get enough to eat.
Thanks for sharing your lemurs with us, we don’t get enough of them.

    1. What! You took delinquent kids to watch delinquent lemurs like that bully in the first photo? lol, just kidding…
Kids are kids, and they all love the zoo! It’s great that you do something good for troubled children…. 🙂

    1. Yeah, it’s amazing how their social structure works …just like with humans! “The Godfather” Lemur scares the heck out of the other ones…and do what the boss says…lol!

  3. Wouldn’t want t meet a lemur or a person with the black’s eyes alone in a back alley!!! Don’t worry, Fi – a little “Nutty” is good!

  4. Strangely beautiful creatures aren’t they?

I assume your diet includes more than JUST fruit and nuts ;>)

Been meaning to comment on your header quote from Emerson — I love that so much! It epitomizes what I want to get from our travels.

  5. What an odd looking face on the first lemur. More like some weird stuffed animal from Disney. The red one looks at least more animal like.

  6. Oh, we just love lemurs in our house thanks to the “Madagaskar” movies. We saw them at the zoo this summer and I must go through those shots to see if I can show any of them here. Yours are just great!
