With a cherry on top

Last week, I passed the park with the Japanese sakura trees very early in the morning.

It was minus degrees, frosty and very cold —

But that didn’t stop this photo shoot (the model had bare feet)!

Later on that week, I returned on a sunnier day

Just in time for a wedding photo shoot under the blossoms.

You can’t help but smile

Underneath that candy floss canopy of flowers!

(I’m only posting once this week as I’m away filming at the end of the week.)

Flower power

We’ve had a lot of rain this summer —

And it’s been wonderful discovering the different flowers in the garden.

Raindrops are beautiful kisses

On the petalled lips of tulips,

While bringing out the fragrance

Of the lilacs.

Pink petal profusion

One of the highlights of spring is enjoying the sakura

Or Japanese cherry blossoms in the centre of Stockholm.

The sakura speak to us of

What is possible

Unfurled.jpg

And of petalled beauty

That lasts only a short time,

Blooming without holding back

Pretty in pink.jpg

And reminding us that life is like the sakura:

Fleeting, fragile, fabulous.

Tiny beauties

A sure sign of spring

Are the tiny lilac beauties (wood anemones)

Blooming in the woods.

Bright petals

You can’t but help feel happy

When you see their merry heads

Nodding on the forest floor.

Purple and blue

Their petals become paper thin

In the sunlight.

paper thin

I notice a dry leaf glowing

Like a stained glass window.

Leaf

These flowers are protected in the Stockholm region

So you’re not allowed to pick them.

I’m happy about that —

As their beauty remains for all to enjoy,

Spread at our feet like a blanket of dreams.

Sunburst

The great big

Hallelujah of the sun

Sunburst 1

Bursting out into song

Over rooftops and trees

Gives me energy.

Sunburst 2

Even the melody of the setting sun

In the city a couple of weeks ago

Sang a beautiful tune.

Wide horizons

Part of the joy of life

Is broadening our horizons, seeing new skies

And experiencing new things.

Here’s a London view:

Travel is a great way of doing this —

And of discovering that our little part of the world

Isn’t the centre of things.

Travel helps us discover that there isn’t only one way of doing things —

But many ways.

Here’s a New York view:

For that reason, my daughter and I

Are leaving the cozy horizons of Stockholm —

Known as ‘The Venice of the North’ —

(See photo below)

For the real Venice in Italy.

Can’t wait!

The Feather Islands

During the school holidays, the kids and I went to Fjäderholmarna —

Or in English, The Feather Islands.

As the boat left Stockholm, we passed the city’s most famous crane

Painted as a giraffe. (It’s near the funfair.)

Giraffe

After half an hour, we arrived on the island

And visited a local café.

We followed the sign and started off the day with ice cream…

Eat dessert

The island has a strong tradition of fishing,

And one of the boathouses was decorated

With the fearsome skulls of pike.

My two small adventurers

Discovered many places to explore.

We visited the local glassblower

And admired a work in progress,

Glowing like a jewel.

Glowing

Tired and happy, we returned home on the boat

Under a dramatic sky.

Cherry on top

Every year, the sakura – or Japanese cherry blossoms –

Spread pretty pops of pink elation in downtown Stockholm.

Blossoms and buds

They hang like

Petalled bunches from the trees;

Bunches

Are gorgeous

Clouds of blossoms in the sky;

Clouds of petals

Float in the air

Like pink tutus;

And remind us

That life, like the cherry blossom,

Is fragile, fleeting and beautiful.

Cherry skies

What could be more delicious

Than a swirl of blue,

Fragile petals shining

In the spring sun

Blue and pink

And an entire sky

Of pink blossoms?

On the ranch

There’s nowhere better to be

Than on the ranch on a hot summer’s day.

My hot dog, Oscar, and I can just hang out

Oscar and horse

And friends are always willing to give him a hug.

You can meet beautiful horses

Not afraid to roll in the mud

And, best of all, children can find

Good friends willing to share

The same hairstyle

And the same intense look of friendship.
