During the Christmas break, we looked after Jessie, one of Ruby’s puppies from 2014.
She and Simmie spent a long time
Chasing each other through frozen, silver grasses.
After a cold and invigorating swim,
The play continued.
(Can you see the water drops flying through the air?)
To an outsider, it might have looked
As if they were fighting —
But really it was more like love and frolicking
Between two really good friends.

The cooler weather has given Oscar a new lease of life.
He’s always ready to play a game of ball…
Look at those ears flapping in the autumn sunshine —
“We have lift off!” they seem to be saying.
Another fun game is hiding in the leaves
And hoping I won’t be able to find him.

(We’ll be out in the autumn sun, so please excuse me if I don’t get around to visiting you all this weekend.)
A day out at the beach
Can fill you with joy
And teach you that you need to make time for rest —
And space for play and imagination.
Even when stripped down to the bare bones,
We still have a rusty beauty.
At the end of the day,
It is enough simply to be,
And to be who we are.

Will you play with me, please?
Look, I’ve got a new toy. Do you want to play?
Does anyone want to play? Anyone?
At last! A little friend…
