Ruby turned 8 last week. As many of you long-time followers know, she is very good at posing for photos.
Perhaps Hollywood is calling her name…
Here she is as the Snow Queen:
She makes a good character
in Dame of Thrones, don’t you think?
And, of course, her ears flapping in a storm
Make her a great favourite to play Yoda.
“So, Ruby – what do you think of your mum always taking photos of you?”
No, surely that’s not you sticking your tongue out at me!

What a gift from Mother Nature —
Lots more snow!
Ruby and Simmie look
With their golden fur against the snow.
Ruby looks good
Dressed in snow sparkles too.
On the way home, I found a mirror and took
A (fairly bad) shot of myself with the dogs.

It was a gorgeous evening
When I went out for a walk with the dogs.
The summer light
Drizzled over grass and dogs alike
Lighting up the fields
With its honeyed glow
So that there was gold
Both in the sky
And in the grass.

It was a glorious winter day
With snow, sun and sparkles on the trees.
That made me smile.
A long walk with friends
— That’s what made Simmie smile.
After two hours of running around
And enjoying the scenery —
We were all tired and happy.
(That’s my Ruby on the right as you look at the photo and Simmie on the back left
With Jessie, Ruby’s puppy, standing in front of him.)

During the Christmas break, we looked after Jessie, one of Ruby’s puppies from 2014.
She and Simmie spent a long time
Chasing each other through frozen, silver grasses.
After a cold and invigorating swim,
The play continued.
(Can you see the water drops flying through the air?)
To an outsider, it might have looked
As if they were fighting —
But really it was more like love and frolicking
Between two really good friends.

Ruby’s previous owner trained her to jump up
On very tall rocks for treats. She seems to enjoy it.
Last week, the mornings were cold (minus temperatures)
But Ruby decided to break through the ice for a swim anyway.
She then scaled a tall rock
And decided to share a spring shower with me.
Once out of the water,
She started to steam in the cold air.
No matter how hard he tried,
Simson just wasn’t agile enough to jump onto the top of that tall tall rock!
In the meantime, Ruby remained at the top,
Enjoying the sunshine in majestic solitude.

Indulge me as I revel in the joy of dogs.
(This is our dear Oscar – gone but not forgotten.)
They know how to live life
So fully and happily and goofily
(Life is better with a bit of silliness in it and Simson is our little goofball.)
They know how to greet friends
With open paws and make them feel appreciated
(This is Alba, a friend’s dog.)
And they know that a smile and some snow
Is the best cosmetic in the world,
(Just like our Ruby).

I may or may not have taken over 100 photos of Ruby’s pups a couple of weeks ago —
So I hope you don’t mind if I share some more!
Who can resist
A small, furry puppy face —
Or a handful
Of puppy love?
One of the puppies
Attached herself to my son’s finger.
Our visit tired out
The adorable puppies
And we left them sweetly snoozing.

I’m off to England for a week —
Time to smell the flowers,
And meet the family.
(So I won’t be able to visit you while I’m away — but I thank you in advance for your visit.)
I’ve got some scheduled posts in case you want to pop in during the week!

Dogs can teach us many lessons in life:
Test new waters – don’t be afraid to try new things,
Love unconditionally and be yourself,
Always always live each moment to its fullest
And don’t be afraid of silliness (it’s fun)!
