Let me take you on an autumn walk —
Through crunchy leaves and quiet fields of deer.
Down to the lake we go,
Simmie leads the way to upside-down peace.
Further along, Ruby – Queen of jumping on stones –
Poses in front of a tree in full foliage firework.

You never know what surprises spring might reveal:
A floating bench on purple-tinted water at sunset;
Three buds looking
Like small owls on a branch;
Underneath a park bench;
And, popping up out of the field,

Autumn is a golden
Curtain of leaves;
It’s the russet fur
Of autumn-coloured dogs;
And the surprise of deer
Blending in with the trees.

I love the soft, misty feel of autumn —
Especially when a deer family decides to rest in the fields as I take my photo!
The temperatures are still quite mild
And Simmie loves nothing more than swimming in the lake.
This is his face when I ask him to come out. (That’s right – he doesn’t want to!)
As for Ruby,
She is content just catching leaves.

Autumn is a good time for the deer:
One minute you only see fields,
And the next minute, the deer are there.
Their dance is perfectly synchronized:
Eyes front …
(And look surprised).
And enjoy the golden light of autumn.

Early summer is
A symphony of green and wildlife:
The green is
Sometimes luminous and startling,
Sometimes like dewy
And sometimes abstract paintings
In the rain.

One warm afternoon last year,
I was walking in an unexplored forest
And taking photos of Oscar.
Suddenly, I looked up to see a deer
Gazing peacefully at me.
Our eyes locked for what felt like ages.
I felt the deer was trying to tell me something:
That you can find gifts in the most unexpected of places.
