Winter

Light burst

It’s cold.

The snow hangs heavy on the trees.

But oh, that lovely March light

Light

Bursts into song to let us know

That if we hang on just a little bit longer

Then spring will be here.

Cold crystals

It’s real winter at last!

The sun is so bright it hurts my eyes.

Dogs.jpg

The plants and trees

Are covered in glittering ice crystals.

Crystals.jpg

And it’s quite cold too —

So cold that even the icicles have icicles on them!

Icicles.jpg

Ruby doesn’t mind the

Crystals on her face.

(Neither does Simmie but he’s too busy running around for me to snap a shot of him.)

Ruby.jpg

Ruby waits patiently

For me to warm up my frozen fingers

Before we carry on with our beautiful walk.

Winter postcards

Winter sent me some postcards:

A bridge nestled in cottonwool snow;

Snowybridge.jpg

A golden tree line

Of sparkling trees;

Goldentreeline.jpg

A tiny, wooden, red cottage

Surrounded by iced delight;

Redcottage.jpg

And happy blue skies

To go along with frosty nose and fingers.

Ghost trees

Going down to the lake,

The trees rise up like ghosts.

Ghosts.jpg

It’s the hoar frost

That turns them into white beauties.

Icytrees.jpg

The little sauna house on the lake

Is snuggled in veils of white.

Saunahouse.jpg

Ruby finds a boat

And balances on top (she’ll do anything for a treat)!

Ruby.jpg

On the way home,

Ruby and Simmie provide pops of colour

Against the green and white trees.

When winter comes in all its beauty – you have to embrace it!

Winter snapshots

Winter has many forms of beauty —

Sometimes it’s clear ice and cloudy skies,

Dogs.jpg

Or a burst of pink dawn;

Sunrise.jpg

At other times, it’s golden fog

Mist.jpg

Or a honey glow over cottage and snow.

Goldencottage.jpg

All photos taken with my mobile phone, so please excuse the quality.

I’m away for work this week, so may not have time

To get around to your blogs.

I’m linking up to: Our World and Skywatch. Please pop over there for a visit!

Rolling clouds

The lull between big snow storms

Is painted in clouds of purple

Drama.jpg

And blue that roll over the landscape

As the sun slowly rises to say hello.

Stormy sky.jpg

And, of course, my poser Ruby

Looks good in that early morning light.

(Meanwhile, Simmie just prefers to run around

In circles enjoying the snow! :-))

The heart of the snow

This is a snowy post —

(Sorry about the pun),

Posts.jpg

Where splashes of red and white

Look like Santa’s hat;

Red+snow.jpg

And snug houses

Are framed by snowy branches.

Redhouse.jpg

And, if you’re lucky,

You might find the heart of winter.

Winter haitus

One day, it’s glorious autumn

And bursts of colour,

Endofautumn.jpg

The next, it’s heavy snowfall

And the magic of winter —

With autumn leaves still hanging on.

Winterbarn.jpg

Although all this snow has now melted,

(Yes, all melted away!)

We had one wonderful week

Full of the magic of snow.

(I’m hoping it will come back before Christmas.)

Wear it like a crown

We had the biggest snowfall every recorded

In November over the past 111 years.

Swings.jpg

Mist rose from the ground

As the storm raged on.

Snowy.jpg

Autumn leaves continued to fall

After it stopped snowing – creating

A curious mix of winter and autumn (wintumn).

Snowyleaves.jpg

It was a struggle to get down to the beach

To enjoy snowy views.

Snowybeach.jpg

Trees turned into Japanese paintings

With graceful curved branches

Wearing the gift of snow like a crown.

Can a dog smile?

It was a glorious winter day

With snow, sun and sparkles on the trees.

That made me smile.

Frozen.jpg

A long walk with friends

To chase

Chase.jpg

— That’s what made Simmie smile.

Laughing Simmie.jpg

After two hours of running around

And enjoying the scenery —

We were all tired and happy.

(That’s my Ruby on the right as you look at the photo and Simmie on the back left

With Jessie, Ruby’s puppy, standing in front of him.)
