jetty

New kid on the block

The setting sun threw out a white arc

Of cloud as we walked down to the lake

To welcome the new jetty.

It is a good place to sit

And watch the coloured ribbons in the sky.

The drama of the grey

Novembers past speak of old jetties reaching out

To embrace the drama and gentleness of grey.

Ode to a jetty

A couple of weeks ago, we got the news that our beloved jetty (where we used to live)

Had been removed because it was old and rickety.

That was part of its charm:

We loved the way it curved and warped and bent;

The way it seemed to stretch out to infinity.

It was a big part of the children’s childhood —

Peaceful moments under big skies;

And it was there I enjoyed so many moments

With a best furry buddy.

RIP, dear old jetty – you will be missed!

(Luckily, I took a lot of photos of my favourite place

So there are still plenty to share with you.)

The jetty

The geese flew away

Can you see them in the top left-hand corner?

Like falling leaves

Leaving behind the grey beauty of the jetty.
