It’s early autumn here …
And the fields are full of wildflowers still —
And a dog or two.
(A wolf was spotted here a couple of weeks ago too, but it’s long gone.)
There’s nothing more wonderful
Than running free in autumn colours.

I love the soft, misty feel of autumn —
Especially when a deer family decides to rest in the fields as I take my photo!
The temperatures are still quite mild
And Simmie loves nothing more than swimming in the lake.
This is his face when I ask him to come out. (That’s right – he doesn’t want to!)
As for Ruby,
She is content just catching leaves.

The equinox has been and gone,
Which means it’s getting dark so early on in the evenings.
We have to chase the light —
Or perhaps the light is chasing us.
(This is Simmie, who turned four this weekend.)
But when the sun comes out,
The woods are filled with gold.

When the sun rises
And autumn leaves catch fire,
You can see copper flames
Reflected in the lake,
And lemon lanterns
Lighting the way to winter.

I slowly make my way down to the lake,
Hoping to see autumn miracles.
The early morning is moody and mysterious,
Yet I glimpse masterpieces of autumn
In the gloomy light.
As it gets brighter, the peaceful grey sky
Makes the colours of leaves and fur pop.
The dogs chase one another,
Oblivious of the copper and gold around them.
When I get back to the boat that you see in the second photo,
The sun shines — leaving me with the beautiful taste
Of lemon glaze on water.

I’m living in a beautiful world
Where autumn leaves and skies are reflected
On mirror surfaces of the lake;
Where the sky
Is upside down in beautiful reflections;
Are luminous in the water;
And where dogs
Swim in clouds.

Living near a new part of the lake
Gives wide views from stony cliffs.
Ruby glows among the autumn leaves
As she jumps up on a big rock that is more than 2 metres high.
Simmie prefers to camouflage himself
Among the yellow lanterns of leaves.
A leaf shines
Like a ruby;
And the brilliance of a fallen leaf
Reflects onto rock like molten gold.

As autumn drew to a close,
Leaves fell and a heron flew across the sky.
Ducks skimmed the water
Looking like scattering leaves
Before flying away
To a golden horizon.

Autumn has been and gone over here —
But I’m reliving some of the leafy beauty still.
One morning, I passed the local kindergarden
And noticed the maple leaves glowing
In the pink sunrise. They were stunning.
Hiking out into the countryside
A lovely pastoral scene unfolded,
Making me feel as if I were living
Inside a Japanese silk painting.
