That golden light

The kids and I spent a wonderful, long day in London recently —

And they had to pull me away as the sun was setting over the Thames.

The lamps were lit up by the golden glow of the sun

And the man seemed blissfully unaware of the seagulls flying up behind him …

Man on bridge

Even the double-decker buses looked romantic

As the molten carpet of light flowed over the water.

Golden water

However, I’m not really a big city kind of person

And am always grateful to be back by ‘my’ lake —

To enjoy its golden beauty.

The sunken boat in this photo reminds me of Rumi:

“Where there is ruin, there is hope for treasure.”

  1. I honestly think that places “know” when you’ve shown up with your camera, for they seem to always put on the most beautiful displays for you! 🙂 I absolutely love your gorgeous photos of London, but like you I would feel most at home by the quiet and lovely lake. That Rumi quote is perfect!

  2. Enjoyed your photos immensely, especially as we had been in London only a few weeks ago. The city looked lovely and your delightful shots brought back a lot of good memories.

  3. Stunning light…stunning pictures like always! I think I like your last photo the best with the sunken boat. You capture the golden colors in the sunlight the best of any photographer yet.

  7. You make the ‘city’ look peaceful—which it usually is not… I’m a small town/country/lake/mountain type girl myself –and the city never appeals to me. But–you make it look beautiful.

  8. I so envy how close everything is over there. That you can just pop over to London for a day is amazing to me. Thank you for sharing it’s beauty, but like you, I’m one for being in nature.

    1. I was in southern England visiting family and popped up to London by train from there. Even though you could go to London for just one day from Sweden, that would be a bit much! (2.5 hours by plane each way…)

  9. Your photos are always so lovely, so well composed. The one with the train and buses over the bridges with the river and sunlight – what a capture. And the last one, well, I’m with you, give me the golden hour by the lake!
