Softly spring

Spring dances in —

Two steps forward and one step back.

Frosty dawn

Frosted dawns

Give way to soft pink light.

Pink light

Blue skies are serenaded

By blur of wings and trees

Waiting to burst into bud.

Blur of wings

And winter leaves behind

A fragile reminder of its return.

  1. Beautiful photos, Fiona. Makes us remember that Mother Nature is IN CHARGE… Spring will come —but only when it’s ready!!!!!! ha…. We’ve had some beautiful spring weather here lately –after a very cold spell a week ago… Is Spring finally here? Who knows???? ha

  2. Dear Lady Fi, the approach of spring and the retreat of winter is truly “two steps forward and one step back” here in western Missouri. We’ve had days in the 70s followed by days in the 40s–a wet cold at that. But oh, this week is supposed to stay in the 70s and I’m so looking forward to walking every day. Thank you for sharing your evocative photographs and words. Peace.

    1. Geraldine! What a delightful surise to see you here; I was doing a search engine about the fabulous poem by Yeats:
      Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
      Enwrought with golden and silver light,
      The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
      Of night and light and the half light,
      I would spread the cloths under your feet:
      But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
      I have spread my dreams under your feet;
      Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

      W.B. Yeats (1865–1939)

  3. PS Me again!

    Visited Ronda last week – it was very warm. Unlike this week – rain falling not just on the plain in Spain but here on the coast too!

  4. Goodness, what frosty mornings you have. Today it was 10C when I went out at 7am with The Princess – quite a bit warmer than Lapptuna 🙂 But what you lack in actual warmth, you certainly make up for with soft, pastel beauty. Just lovely ♥ ♥

  5. Fi, I just love your light at dawn. It must be some kind of ‘top of the world’ phenomenon. Your photos are always so restful and your words the perfect accompaniment.

  8. You caught the shifting light of spring as it moved across the day,….and so beautifully as always. I’m missing sunrise and it’s beautiful colours now that the clocks have shifted, so thank you especially for reminding if the beauty of the beginning of the day 🙂

  9. Our spring has been similar, only I feel like one step forward and two steps back. Each shot is very nice, but I absolutely LOVE that first shot! Amazing!

  11. It seems as if our springs are similar and your description of two steps forward, one back is so true. I love the photo of the heavy frost although I don’t want anymore. It is time to think of gardening now. 🙂
