Moon rising

With such short days, sometimes the dawn

Is a silver coin of moon instead of the sun.

It is the misty blue hour

Of moon rising

When all seems possible

As a heron skims across life’s surface.

It brings to mind a lovely verse written by Rumi:

“Some nights stay up till dawn,
as the moon sometimes does for the sun.
Be a full bucket pulled up the dark way
of a well, then lifted out into light.”

  1. Some beautiful, almost haunting photographs of the lake and the mist! Truly wonderful! And then your words go with them oh so well! Phenomenal post! Keep up the good work!

  2. The Long Nights Moon is one of my favourite moons – always shining like a beacon before passing the baton to the sun again at the solstice. You had a stunning view, with that beautiful lake and the mist rising – just lovely. And you always know just the right words to enhance the pictures.

  3. I saw the moon early this morning as a silver disc, and your poetry nailed it perfectly: “With such short days, sometimes the dawn

Is a silver coin of moon instead of the sun.”

  4. “It is the misty blue hour

    Of moon rising

When all seems possible” Those are perhaps the most beautiful words I’ve ever read! Gorgeous photos, Fi, but the words stand on their own too! Magical!

  5. So beautiful. Isn’t it wonderful to live on/near the water!! I am so surprised sometimes to see how much your lake reminds me of the one in Oregon where we stay in the summer. So similar (if my pictures were as good as yours).

  6. oh my – your second image is stunning. We had to photograph the blue hour for our photography group a few months ago – mine certainly didn’t come close to the beauty of your images.
Have a wonderful Christmas and thank you for stopping by my blog this week.

  7. I am sure these are the most beautiful and unique pictures on complete database of Skywatch. In fact, the word should be one of its kind pictures.

I am kind of lost in the 2nd picture imagining myself at that beautiful location. Keep sharing such beautiful pictures.

Remember a quote “The sky is full of dreams, but you don’t know how to fly― The Killers”

    Have a good weekend ahead.

  8. You know, tomorrow is the Winter Solstico the days begin to grow. It is an occasion of joy and celebration in different ways in different cultures.
I wish you well, and you’re still doing extraordinary photos.

  9. “A silver coin of moon” in the “misty blue hour” – how poetically beautiful!

This is my last comment to you from me this year. I always scrolled down your new post with bated breath, ladyfi, and I also thank you for the kind and encouraging comment throughout the year. With the best wishes to your peaceful Christmas and healthy New Year.

  10. Gosh, such beautiful photos and I love your words too. I thought this matched perfectly with the atmosphere in your photos: It is the misty blue hour / Of moon rising / When all seems possible.
Thank you for your kind comment on my blog – it was quite an honour to be complimented by such a good photographer as you.

  11. What a gorgeous dawn!!! My favourite is the first image!!! But I love the whole effect, like I am turning in a circle, admiring the different views…
