Wonderful firsts

It’s always exciting to experience the first stirrings of spring.

And even though they happen every year, it feels as if I were experiencing them

For the very first time.

It’s magical when the ice finally melts …

Dog and girl

When the first patch of crocuses appear in the neighbours’ garden…

First spring flowers 2013

When we can finally get out into the woods again

Oscar trees

And witness birds singing on trees.

Tree and bird

Even the faded beauty of an old cottage in the woods

Takes on new beauty

Old door

And the old window

Reflects back a stately tree.

  4. You’re so right, and you’ve just put your finger on the main reason I love living where there are four distinct seasons – the comforting familiarity of nature’s cycling rhythms and the feeling that the beginning of each is always novel and new and happening for the first time!

What a wonderful set of photos. Those crocuses (croci??) are glorious! And Oscar looks both baffled and pleased by the absence of snow on the ground! I love the pale green cottage door with the heart on it!

  5. «Louis» has been so busy between working and having his right ankle replaced, that he has been negligent in visiting other blogs, including yours.

It is always such a pleasure to visit your beautifully done blog.

  8. Beautiful new start indeed. I remember (back when we lived somewhere with real seasons) thinking that New Year’s Day really should be in early Spring instead. The crocuses (croci?) are amazingly beautiful and bring back lovely memories.

  9. Spring really is like a rebirth each year Fiona, I love it so much also. Oscar will have as much fun running through the woods as he does in the snow I’m sure.

  12. It is a such a good feeling when spring finally arrives isn’t it? Just think though, it wouldn’t feel as sweet had you not had the winter.
