Spring Schpring!

People want to know if I’m tired of winter and longing for the spring.

The answer is no.

Snow dazzle copy

Late winter is a fabulous time of dazzling sun;

Of lacy art made out of ice and rainbows:

Art

Of exhilarating days of trees made out of curtains of lace.

Curtain of lace

It’s still minus 14C when we wake up

Making it pleasant to walk on the iced over lake

To enjoy the sight of sunken boats and endless blue skies.

Sunken boat

The secret to happiness is not to long for something you don’t have

But to enjoy fully what you do have.

  4. I love graceful bare trees and your photo of them with the “lace” is one of the loveliest I’ve ever seen. And yes, Oscar, in the last picture, perfectly illustrates the theme of this lovely post. Life is good.

  6. These photos confirm, what I have been thinking the last few days. Yes spring is here, if not, then it is awful close. Northern hemisphere dwellers don’t require a calendar, nor a news anchor, nor a website to inform us. However, crocuses, daffodils and the like or the return of a particular species of bird is not always fool proof. But the light, the intensity of the hues, the length of shadows, the grain of the snow, the type of pressure cracks from old ice fracturing the course snow crust, the colour of the buds on saplings – all a sure signs that yes it is close. That all said, if one fails to read the signs, then Oscar reaction pretty much confirms it…….perfect images for the seasons, apt sediments, yours eyes have capture what many miss and what many missed.

  7. I love that you’re okay with winter. We got eight inches of fresh snow last week, so I gotta admit that I’m ready to move on!

  8. “The secret to happiness is to fully enjoy what you do have.” So, I’m enjoying the cold and crisp air of this week different from last week’s April-like warmth. But if I long for something, it’s the winter wonderland like your photos. I haven’t experienced such amount in Nara. Always fun and relaxing to see Oscar showing his joy with his whole body.

  11. How many beautiful Calendars can you create of all those wonderful photos on your blog?
Thanks for your comment on my blog. There is still so much to do for us. How can we do that when men don’t see the necessity of it.

  12. Dogs are just the best at loving what they have 🙂 beautiful photos. I love winter too when the skies are bright and clear, what I’m less fond of are endless grey clouded days…..not good for taking photos….but I agree with what you say 🙂

  13. Splendid shots – its just occurred to me that we both left the UK (or at least ended up away from the UK) for the same reason – but one of us bakes while the other freezes! Funny old world!

  14. Hello ladyfi,
Even though the field is covered with white, how it is colorful and bright in your photos!! Especially the first photo is superb! Knockout!!
I love your expression “to enjoy fully what you do have”. It sounds like Buddha’s teaching!
Nara is getting warmer at last.

  20. As a fan of winter, I couldn’t agree more! I love the quiet, the stillness, the sense of solitude, and the stark beauty of it, which you capture so eloquently in your photos. But I enjoy each season as it comes, and love the diversity.
That first photo is my absolute favorite, and I love your words of wisdom about happiness (which Oscar gives life to so perfectly!)

  21. You seem to get a lot of sun to go with the drop in temperatures….such beautiful photography. I wonder if the reason we are all complaining is the lack of sun.
