Golden lace

About a month ago, the ice was finally thick enough

For the snowplough to come and make an ice skating track around the lake.

This was happy news as I was finally able to walk over the lake

To enjoy the beauty of the setting sun

Winter susnset

As it cast its net of light

And turned branches into golden lace.

Golden lace

I met a woman out with her camera too —

And for a few minutes, we shared a bond

As we enjoyed the simple gift of the sinking sun.

  2. You have a gift, my Lady. A wonderful gift. Artist of the lens and of the written word. Just wonderful. Your pics here bring me back to my youth when I walked the ice and saw the rare beauty of creation in winter. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂 Eric

  3. That is absolutely gorgeous! Isn’t it fun to be able to walk out on the lake and get a different perspective? Then to also meet a fellow photographer makes it complete.

  7. ‘Golden branches’ is a very appropriate description of these trees in front of the setting sun. I’m glad the ice was thick enough for you to walk on the lake and get these gorgeous pictures. I’m also glad I can enjoy them on my computer — I can only imagine how cold it was when you took them.

  8. How I love that second photo in particular! So, so beautiful, that frozen scene gilded in gold. Your photos always look so solitary, I imagine you (and Oscar, of course) being the only humans around for miles. What a surprise to me that you not only met another person on that frozen lake at sunset, but that she too was there to capture the beauty with her camera! I wonder if she’s also a blogger – and if her photos will also make an appearance on SkyWatch? 🙂

  9. I love this new opening collage. The first shot of the trees really does look like their laced in gold. Then the shot of them draped with snow — wow! And, of course, Oscar with his cute snow-covered nose.

  12. So glad you took that walk!! Wonderful atmosphere and coloration in the top two images — the silhouetted branches are striking, and the reflected light on the foreground snow is perfect. Kudos!!
