The faithful companion

She appeared out of the sunlight

Walking stately yet with the limp of old age.

She looked kindly at me and Oscar –

Then turned back.

She waited for her old owner as she hobbled towards us on crutches.

“Please take a picture of Tosca!” she cried.

“She’s my only company now that my husband has died.”

Her faithful companion posed regally for her portrait

Before returning to her owner’s side.

(Today I printed out these two shots on big glossy paper and delivered them to Tosca’s house.

Big smiles all round.)

    1. It was so heart-breaking to her the woman talking about how sad and empty she’ll feel if her dog dies before her. That’s why I thought it would be nice to visit and give her the photos.

  3. A lovely pet portrait and a truly heartwarming story. Your kind gesture would, I’m sure, have meant a great deal to Tosca’s owner. May similar kindnesses be showered upon you when in need. Thanks for sharing Fi

  4. Ah, I love shelties and collies. They are such beautiful dogs and the background of fall coated leaves is perfect. Cheers! Danette

  6. What an unusually woolly dog Fi. I wonder what sort it is? Well done for giving the lady the photos you took. I bet she was pleased – Dave
