Of gingerbread and snow

The little wooden houses of Sweden remind me of fairy tales.

In summer, the wood glows like red rubies –

But in the winter, those red timbers really come into their own.

Topped with an icing of snow,

They resemble gingerbread houses.

So delicious, I feel I could reach out and eat one.

Even autumn leaves hanging onto the winter branches

Look like delicious gingerbread —

Or perhaps a brown coat fluttering in the wind,

Left there by someone eager for new adventures.

  2. You are so right! This wonderful house has so much charm and warmth…and in winter does remind one of a gingerbread house! I love the fence too! Beautiful photos!

  3. Dear Fiona,
Sorry for the inconvenience! On one of my blogs I changed the word moderation 2 days ago, because I got tired of it, trying to get through it, on someone else’s blog 6 times, so I got to Blogger Help and told them they needed to do a better job!
The other of my 2 blogs, where you tried to get get a comment through, had once been hacked, so I’m trying to prevent that from happening again -also because it has 2 pages (one for art). Sorry again – hopefully other bloggers will complain too about the new word moderation, so they’ll try to do something about it.

  4. The colour of the houses is great!

The way in which our ecosystems burst back into life after a fire really is remarkable. The Prom was burnt 3 summers back – and watching the place grow back has been great.

    Cheers – SM

  5. You are absolutely right… so beautiful, in different ways in different seasons! I love a red barn in winter w/ snow, but it’s hard to beat a bright red in a yard of green grass under a blue sky! Love em both! =)

  6. I love that little red house. It looks like some of our log homes except much “tighter” for some reason. The snow really does it justice.

  7. Handel and gretal,

When you are a primary school teacher, you teach them a lot of fairy tales.

    My surname is CHIN,

so I always tell them, “No NO NO, not by the hair of my Chinny Chin Chin” and they LOL.
