Hot dogs

It seems as if only a few short weeks ago, we still had snow on the ground.

Wait a minute, it was only a few weeks ago!

The heat came on suddenly, hardly giving spring a chance to do its thing.

Oscar feeling the heat...

When I say it’s hot, I mean it’s hot for here.

29 C for us is probably someone else’s winter – I do realize that.

However, it’s been much hotter indoors as our boiler went haywire and decided to pump out as much heat as possible — 24 hours a day.

Our house is designed to keep in the heat so it was like living and sleeping in a sauna.

A hot dog we met out on a walk...

Ah well, there is only one solution to the problem… if you’re a dog called Oscar.

(As for us humans, a nice man came and fixed the boiler.)

  1. We had a similar weather shift: snow and then two weeks later it was 35 C (and do NOT think for one minute that I know how to do that conversion in my head!) Glad your boiler is fixed and that you have a beautiful lake and water-loving dog.

  2. Our weather has been odd here- we had unseasonable rains (it’s semi-arid here and rarely rains as it did last month) then suddenly got hot. Now it’s been raining again. It seems like it will be a very hot summer though- something in the air…

  3. Also in this country the weather has been strange. Easter was the hottest in a hundred years or so , now 6 weeks further it is a lot colder and it should be the other way around. WE re not used to this sudden heat and our animals aren’t either.
I love your photo’s of the dogs, the one swimming is gorgeous.
    Have a nice weekend

  4. 29C is perfect for me. Our weather is hotter. My poor furry dogs. I’m sure they feel very hot. They don’t have the opportunity to swim like yours do.

  6. The heat is unbearable here also. Spring lasted but three days. I can’t imagine being a long haired dog going through this- my goodness! As far as Oscar- he is the COOLEST dog in the world, and smart too!

  7. That dramatic change from snow to sauna is so backward. Isn’t it supposed to work the other way–sweat it all out in the sauna and then go roll in the snow, right? Either way it is a shock to the system. Glad you got the boiler fixed.

  8. Coming from southern California, 84 deg (39 C) is just about right…Up here in our new mountain locale, 84 F is really warm!!! Getting acclimated to the snow up here I think means the heat feels hotter than it used to!!! (It’s early in the morning here and I haven’t had coffee yet…did that make any sense at all???)

  9. My sympathies, over here 29 C is hot. And then to have a house that keeps in the heat, well that isn’t good is it?

At least you have the lake, poor Oscar. Hope that it breaks soon, and gives you a repreave.

  10. Glad your boiler’s fixed. I wish we could all be like dogs and jump in the lake to cool off . . . well, I suppose there’s nothing stopping us;-)

  11. Oscar is wonderful, Fi. Whenever I see photos of him swimming, I remind my husband we haven’t taken Lindy to any swimming holes yet. Fortunately, our back yard is very shady, but I think a golden retriever should have a lake, pond or pool to swim in.
The dog you met certainly looks hot with all that hair.

  12. Yeah, you´re right. 29° is our winter. We are having a mild winter this year and enjoying it. Not looking forward to the 44° of summer.

  13. You are having a similar climate to us last year. We had hardly any spring and went almost totally from winter to summer. Now we should be into winter but our temperatures have been very mild. Its cooler but not ‘winter – cold’ yet. Sorry about your boiler. Looks like your dogs know how to get cool! – Dave

  14. We had two extremely hot days here and I was longing for winter again. Now, it’s like fall and absolutely beautiful. I love your beautiful pictures and if I were to have another hot day, I’d love to spend it swimming with Oscar. Gorgeous pictures as always.

  15. that truly is a perfect solution! I have not gone swimming yet this year. I wonder when our water will be warm enough for me. ;-}
    Lovely Sunday to you.

  16. I had to pull out my calculator and translate to Fahrenheit. Even knowing the difference, 29 degrees just can’t sound warm, let alone hot, to me. But 85F in a house with a hyperactive boiler, now that’s hot ! Glad it’s fixed, though I think I would have been in the lake with Oscar pretty quick. Smart dog!

  18. Glad to hear Oscar has a way of cooling off and that you got your boiler sorted!

Enjoy the sunshine – winter has returned here – yesterday we had hail, thunder and lighting, high winds, lashing rain and yes and a bit of sunshine! A real ‘Irish’ summers day with a bit of football thrown in for good measure!

  19. Yeah it is crazy warm here also and my dogs are panting constantly. You just have to give them chances to cool down either in a lake or kiddy pool and lots of water and shade…hope the summer is a classic short scandinavian summer as usual!! 😉

  20. Wow, only a few weeks ago – winter is certainly long in Northern Scandinavia. Luckily we here in the southern part have enjoyed a very long spring this year.;)
Gorgeous (and cute) captures – enjoy 29C – that is hot in my book too.;))

  21. Great shots of the dogs, both are beautiful! Although temperatures can reach 40ºC in the peak of our summer (thankfully not for long periods!), 29 is hot but OK. 🙂
