Illumination

Even a fresh snowfall couldn’t dim the joy of this time of year: the spring equinox.

A time when the light starts coming back, ice and snow recede eventually

And long evenings unfurl perfumed with flowers and warmth.

As one hemisphere gets shorter days and the other longer ones,

This Yin and Yang dance reminds me that we all share this world

And that we are all dependent on each other for balance and harmony.

I will love the light for it shows me the way.  Yet I will endure the darkness for it shows me the stars.

  1. Oh, so beautifully written and said. I wish I had your ability to enjoy and as I read your writing for a moment I did but I’m afraid winter has overwhelmed me this year.

  4. Love the images and the mixture of blue and gold. I’m going to have to borrow that quote – I need reminding of the need for balance way too often!

  5. Lovely golden light! No surprise that many cultures celebrate the equinox. The return of spring and light is always a joyous event.

  6. Heading into the tail end of March and we just got another four inches of snow. That’s just under 90 inches for the season.

    Insert heavy sigh here.

Spring is just around the corner. It really is.

  7. Pearl…we’ve got you beat…we’re over the 500 inches this season mark…with 24-35 inches since last night…if the snow keeps up over the weekend, we’re well on our way to the snowiest winter in 40 years!!!

  9. I remember the noise the dry winter reeds used to make on a nature reserve I worked on a very long time ago.

These pictures brought all those times back.

  11. I am speechless.

I came here to say thanks for visiting my blog (and I shall never forget your comment about the free Brazilian wax!) but I have just spent…what?…half and hour or more mesmerized by your photos and thoughts. Every time I thought I’d found the most gorgeous photo, you surprised me and surpassed it with another…and another.

I adore your nature pics and the horse with wild hair, and I laughed out loud when you nearly fried yourself on your neighbor’s fence. (Sorry.) But I think most of all, I love your perspective on Frodo. I’m still weeping over that short story.

    Beautiful.

  12. Beautiful Fi! I’m not sure from the previous post if you are still on vacation or if that was earlier. Either way, it’s obvious you are enjoying life — as you always do and share so beautifully with us.
