Floating news

They came in flocks. Hissing as they swooped over rooftops.

Everyone rushed out with cameras, hoping to catch some of their colourful beauty

As they flew overhead like exotic birds.

One balloon hovered so near that we could read the newspaper headlines on it.

Later on, when the yolk of the setting sun broke to spread its gold on the waters of the lake,

Anklebiter #1 turned to me and said, “Don’t forget to tell your readers about the day the news came floating by.”

  2. We’re going to the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, NM, next month. I don’t think they’ll be floating over water though. Your daughter’s comment is priceless.

  3. I love balloons – the photo of the balloon over the lake is spectacular. We just had a balloon festival in my town a couple of weekends ago.

  4. They look beautiful, don’t they. It reminds me that I need to try and book a new date for a balloon flight I bought as a birthday present for Mrs S last year! Every date I have tried has come to nothing; too windy or too wet!

  5. gorgeous shots! I love balloons — there’s a festival in October in New Mexico that we’ve always wanted to go to — but never right area of the country at the right time!

Sounds like Anklebiter #1 is about ready to start (her?) own blog!

  6. I love hot air balloons and we have them over our city regularly.
They are so silent and serene.

I love the way you opened the post……… *they came in flocks. Hissing as they swooped over roof tops.* Brilliant.

  7. Every Canadian Thanksgiving they have a balloon festival up at Armstrong. My sister’s other house had the most amazing curved window, and we would watch the balloons down in the valley, as they softly floated.

    A magical moment…..
