Bramber skies

Next to the ruins of Bramber Castle stands the ancient church of St. Nicholas, over 900 years old and still in use today.

The castle-like church roof stands solid in the Sussex countryside. Blue skies, a lone bird, lilac clouds nestling on the hills.

Idyllic.

And yet… walking around to the other side of the church…

Deep shadows, dark stone weathered by the ages,

Secrets brooding.

Mysterious beauty flung against the brightness of the sky.

  3. Beautiful! Brought back lovely memories of a trip to the UK, wandering through tumble down church yards and empty Castle grounds. I could just feel the cold stone walls in the second photo under my hand as I explored the grounds. Thank you for sharing!

  4. Whenever I see such ancient buildings I try to imagine all the lives that played themelves out inside them. The marriages, the childhoods, the joys and tragedies. Strange to think that human lives to so quickly and these buildings just live on.

    Wonderful photos as always!

  6. You are lucky to see such an old castle. New Zealand is very young and has one castle. I am watching on TV about Sissinghurst Castle. Incredible history.
