Swimming with snakes

It was a perfect summer’s day: blazing sun and nothing to do all day long but enjoy the moment.

Anklebiter #1 and her friend, the dog and I drove out in the blazing sun to our ‘secret’ beach, where dogs can swim with their small friends.

Three splashes, a happy bark and laughter.

Kids on right. Dog in middle. Snake... underwater.

Which then turned to hysterical screaming from my daughter’s friend.

“Snake!” came the cry.

And yes – there was a snake swimming along next to the dog and kids.

The friend kept on screaming. The snake dived under the water and disappeared.

I think the poor thing was terrified.

  1. yikes. there is a lake nearby that is just crawling with them…have to be really careful as they blend so well…and are about 4 feet longs…shivers….

  2. I would have died of fright right there in the water had I seen a snake. A rattler bit our dog in our backyard 2 summers ago. Nuf said.

  3. There is something about snakes in the water that make me very very uncomfortable. LOL

Kind of scary to realize that they can be on land, and in the water.

Great shot, love the photo effect.

  4. We saw a rattlesnake swimming in the Gulf once (in Texas). We were on shore — but until then I’d never thought of them being able to swim. I’m not really snake-phobic, but I can’t say I’d love to see one next to me as I swam.

Hard to tell whether your duaghter’s friend or the snake was more scared there.

  5. I remember “meeting” a snake at a science fair once – the local zoo had brought one. It wasn’t as scary as I expected.

That said, finding one suddenly beside me when I was swimming – eek!
