Last week kicked off with a holiday – and what better way of spending it than visiting some sights we haven’t seen before?
Not content with the sweltering heat of an unexpectedly hot day, we decided to visit the Butterfly House …
… which was alarmingly hot and humid just like the tropics.
My camera immediately misted up, as did my glasses, so that the rows of chrysalises from which more butterflies would hatch, hung in the misty air like ghostly bats.
We saw a delightful variety of butterflies, but not as many as I had imagined, and I was feeling slightly disappointed when this luminous beauty landed on Sir Pe.
She flexed her long legs to show off the pollen collected there like golden nuggets and flapped her ruby wings shyly before flying off to land on my shoulder.
Oh, the changes a butterfly goes through to achieve such enchanting beauty!

WOW – great photo of the pollen on the Butterfly! I agree, the humidity in a Butterfly Pavilion is like in the rain forest – I visit one in Denver frequently with my Grands.

So what was up with those dead looking palm trees..did they actually try to grow them outdoors? Those are some wild woman leggings..but you wear them well! I see the anklebiters are shy. We don’t have a local butterfly house..if there was one too many of us would try to move in during the winter:)

Those dead looking trees are wooden posts that make up part of an art installation I think…

Beautiful shots. Now a days I see lot of colorful butterflies flying near my house. They are not sitting in one place and too fast for to be clicked.

Butterflies really are little miracles aren’t they? We’ve been fortunate to visit a few of these pavillions in our travels — one time with our nature-loving grandson — that was the best! But I’d go again anytime we’re near one. Here where we are now in hot and humid SW Florida, there are a couple of butterfly parks — all the right stuff planted to attract them. No pavilion needed.

Butterflies certainly are amazing creatures. I used to teach first grade and we would collect caterpillars and watch as they turned into Monarch Butterflies…amazing transformation ! We would then release the butterflies so they could make the journey to Mexico. Thanks for sharing this post and helping me relive some wonderful memories. Take care.

Before I left for Europe, I saw snow picture after snow, and now I hear TROPICAL HEAT! What happened?
