Kids write the funniest things, don’t they?

Many thanks for your birthday wishes yesterday!

Today, I got a large pink envelope from my sister and family – with cards from her and my niece and nephew.

My nephew’s card was refreshingly honest:

Yes – you read right!

It says: Happy Birthday. I didn’t think you’d live this LONG! Hopefully, you’ll live forever!”

My dear nephew may just have the makings of a diplomat, don’t you think?

And if you’re thinking that my family has its fair share of nuts, you’d be right. I think we must be like squirrels – in that we hoard the nuts!

Drop me a line and let me know which nut would suit you…

  1. Hahaha, good old TG! 😉

I wonder, when he wrote that, if he considered the fact that his own mum, your sister, is only a couple of years younger than you!

  2. Haha! I think he was the diplomat in that I saw the first sentence – in horror – and said, “You can’t write that!” So he obviously, diplomatically, added the rest ….
Know what he said this morning? “Slowly but surely I am going to die. And you too. We are all going to die.” And it continued, “Why live if we are just going to die at some point?”

  5. How funny!!! I’ll bet if you’d known you were GOING to live this long you’d have taken better care of yourself!! LOL…out of the mouths of babes…our family talks about my cousin Patsy’s letter from summer camp when she was 9…it read in part “the Counselor says if I wet the bed one more time, I’ll have to go home. See you tomorrow night.” It was included in Art Linkletters Kids Say the Darnedest Things” book a million years ago. Too bad out politicians don’t have that honesty of children! Congratulations on Post of the Week!

  7. This reminds me of a moment in Sense and Sensibility (Emma Thompson version) wherein Mariann is going on about the Colonel and how “If age and infirmity” couldn’t protect him from the meddling of a matchmaker…Colonel Brandon being all of forty or so at the time. Eleanor and her mother start talking about her mother’s age (Mariann’s mother also) saying that she must be at death’s door, and it was a miracle her life had extended so far.

I swear to you, that was much funnier when I thought it, versus typing it out 🙂

Hilary’s POTW’s mentions sent me, and it was quite a fun trip!
