This is just to say: It’s not silly – it’s … er … poetry?

Jenners over at Life with a Little One has a wicked sense of humour and she loves challenging us! Our mission – if we accept it – is to write our own mixed-up version of this famous William Carlos Williams’ poem:

This Is Just To Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving for
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
I hope Williams isn’t turning in his grave! Here’s my contribution:
This is just to say
I have lost
my mind
the one in
my care
and which
you were saving
for someone
Forgive me
I’ll take good care of
the next one.
Yes – you’re right. The silly season has just begun!

  1. What a great assignment! I would surely give you an A. Every time I use that poem in class, the students just look at me blankly. Then I read “the red wheelbarrow” to them and they drop the class.

  2. Well I don’t know about William Carlos Williams, but I thought it was great! A mind is a terrible thing to waste … or lose! : )
    Thanks for playing!
