Puppy love

Indulge me a little

As I talk about love and dogs.

(This is an old photo – but one of my favourites.)

Best buddies copy

Oscar, our dog, came to us

When he was four and a half.

He has taught us so much

About love and companionship.

(My son took this picture of Oscar, 11.5, and me.)

Fuzzy buddy

Ruby, 5, is our foster dog and has been with us since December.

She was mated and grew larger and larger.

Towards the end of her pregnancy, she didn’t go far

But loved the coolness of the late evening light.

Ruby light

We thought she might have three or four pups inside her (like the first litter of pups she had last year),

But she surprised us all by giving birth to eight healthy puppies.

This is a photo the breeder sent me on the same day as the birth.

I’d say love conquers all, wouldn’t you?

Ruby

  1. You are blessed indeed and so are Oscar and Ruby!! I do so miss my Sam Schnauzer — my best friend for nearly 12 years and such a sad way for him to have to go!! Thanks for sharing, as always!! Hope all of you have a wonderful week!!

  2. that first picture is such a stunner! growing up i never had pets. my husband however grew up with dogs. two years ago when we moved neighborhoods and moved from an apartment to a house, we found our Foxy wandering the streets. he was around 4 months old and with no home. we took him in and we are so thankful for the day we found him. he is such a sweetie and has brought so much happiness to our family.

  3. That first photo blew me away. But I love all of them! Dogs are such a part of my life. And although puppies are adorable, I’ve never had one. Older dogs with a history fascinate me. We get our dogs from shelters and have had such wonderful success with these mysterious creatures. Harry is loving and a calm 12 year old big guy. He’s terrified of fireworks and sensitive to loud noises. Zoe is a minx and the happiest girl I’ve ever known. Honey was a “war dog” but the scars never made us love her less and in fact, she was more beautiful because of them.

  4. Golden retrievers are the best family dogs. Your son did a remarkable job capturing you with Oscar. Very special photos. Best of luck to the litter of EIGHT! Mercy!

    1. Thanks. The puppies are at the breeders (not with us – good lord no!) and they already have buyers for them. Ruby is our foster dog.

  5. This is truly such a beautiful post, Fi.
I truly think that life is simply not complete without a dog or two.
Any animal that you love, for that matter.

  7. So sweet! Will Ruby come back to your home? That first picture is incredibly beautiful as well. Because of how we live, dogs are out of the equation, so I love the pictures and information you share (as I love visiting our kids’ dogs).

I’m moved to tears now & then missing our good old boy, McGee.. A dog’s love is a treasure. And puppies are such a joy!
McGee’s mom was also named Ruby, he was one of 9 pups, all males! Ruby looks like a wonderful, proud, loving mother.
