Perfect balance
Last week saw the autumnal equinox (and the vernal equinox if you live in the southern hemisphere).
A day when the world is perfectly balanced and in harmony.
A day when everyone in the world shares this balance: an equal number of hours of daylight and night.
For two days every year, when we all have 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark, I like to think of everyone around the globe as being united by a thread of light.
An invisible string that reminds us of our shared experiences rather than our differences.

Stunning, but I do hate mozzies!

Such beautiful photos and a wonderful thought to go with them. A world united…wouldn’t that be amazing?

United in one household, here. My husband was brought up in Australia and still thinks of September as Spring, unless he’s paying attention!
September 30, 2010 at 14:35
I love those days of equal light and darkness too. Sunday we change our clocks an hour forward again, then we have the long evenings. I love that time of year.
September 30, 2010 at 14:43
I love the pictures, but I love the sentiment even more!
Well-said!
September 30, 2010 at 15:01
Beautiful photos and I love the “thread of light” concept.
September 30, 2010 at 15:33
Lovely. Is the close-up cropped out of the big picture?
September 30, 2010 at 16:12
Not cropped. I actually tried to focus on the reeds with the sunset in the background… and I managed (for once)!
September 30, 2010 at 17:28
You understand balance and it shows, not only in your photography, but your comments and your life. Thanks for being there for me and for all of us. Sonia.
September 30, 2010 at 16:17
Oh, blush! Thank you for this kind comment! Great news about your accomplishment! Can’t wait to read it.
September 30, 2010 at 17:30

September 30, 2010 at 16:31
Fantastic photographs, Fi.
September 30, 2010 at 16:45
I love the invisible string imagery.
September 30, 2010 at 17:26
These photos are just brilliant, Lady Fi!!! Absolutely beyond beautiful. Wow!
September 30, 2010 at 17:38
fabulous tandem. but i absolutely adore the first image. i could see that image being used when some church song or hymn is playing in the background.
September 30, 2010 at 18:57
excellent images and super thought!
September 30, 2010 at 19:06
beautiful skies…even once the light is gone there is a thread that runs through…
September 30, 2010 at 19:23
Girl, you’re a regular pro photographer!! Those are STUNNING photos!!
September 30, 2010 at 21:34
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing. It’s a great time now for taking pictures, isn’t it? 24 hours of daylight is cool during the summer time but you do get bored of it after awhile!
September 30, 2010 at 21:36
These sky shots are gorgeous. Neat post about the equinox.
September 30, 2010 at 21:45

September 30, 2010 at 23:18
Great photos, and lovely words. It’s great how you got the depth of field you wanted in each exposure, creating such different shots.

What two lovely contrasting sky scenes. I am not sure if I could handle 12 hours of darkness. I am sure you eventfully adjust to it.

I know..I am dreading the disappearing daylight that summons up the cold of winter, but I am sure you will make that sound lovely too..:)
October 3, 2010 at 03:00
I’m dreading the loss of the balance and days that are dark at 5:00 pm.
October 3, 2010 at 03:46
Dark at 5.00 pm is a luxury. Our days will be dark by just gone 3 pm!
October 3, 2010 at 07:19
The skies are beautiful, as are your harmonious thoughts.
October 3, 2010 at 04:17
Once again stunning balance between colour and form.
October 3, 2010 at 08:02
Beautiful photography… Sharing similar latitude with you I know this means that we are entering the dark period, but hopefully the imminence of the holidays will ease the days of twilight a bit.;)
