On my best behaviour
“I’ve got to be on my best behaviour today.
My little owner, the one known as Anklebiter #1, is eight today. Not eight kilos, but eight years old! And I’ve promised to be on my best behaviour.
You see, when I adopted my new family just over two years ago, I wasn’t quite as well behaved as I am today. And, let’s face it, I was also just a young lad back then at 4.5 years old. Once, when my mum (I think you know her as Lady Pee. Funny thing is she doesn’t use a lamp post like I do!) had made a snake cake and covered it with whipped cream and given it eyes and a tongue out of sweets, she then left it on the kitchen top to go to the loo. When she came back, well – darn it! – she noticed that ‘someone’ had eaten the snake’s head.
And then there was that time a couple of years ago, when I licked the cream off a girl’s plate at another of the anklebiter’s birthday parties…
Still, I just give them the look.
This look.

And all is forgiven.”

You like Lady Fi’s cooking??? Wow, you really are loyal aren’t you??? Do your best to behave today, no one can fault you if you try your best and still fail…especially if you flash them that look, I’d forgive you and probably give you your own plate of cake…remember that if they throw you out…you have a place to stay in Norway….

That expression would melt anyone’s heart! Maybe ask Mum to make a special bit of cake for you? That should keep you out of trouble!

Hello Doggy Pee – I’ve got two dogs here who also steal food from tables and cannot be trusted at times. And we wouldn’t be without them either, just as your mummy and daddy wouldn’t be without you
August 2, 2009 at 16:42
With a face like yours, Lady Pee, no one could resist you! I know I couldn’t and I’d like to give you a sniff and a big, sloppy kiss!! I’d also help you steal food — I do it here every chance I get. My humans try to get stern with me, but all I have to do is smile at them!!
Have a great day!

I loved this story! And that “look” – well, a human person could forgive an awful lot with a dog person look like that.
August 2, 2009 at 17:09
I’m sure they can’t resist!

Happy Birthday, Ankle Biter #1! My own Little Z turns 2 years this week! How nice.

August 2, 2009 at 21:46
Well, of course you’re forgiven. Who could resist that look?
August 2, 2009 at 23:40
Well, you do have a secret weapon in that look … don’t use it for evil!
August 2, 2009 at 23:52
With a look like that to melt hearts – who can say no!
August 3, 2009 at 00:39
Mmm, I think what you guys would like about Lady Fi’s cooking is the novelty of it!!!
August 3, 2009 at 03:45
I can’t believe you didn’t eat the whole snake. Did you not have enough time? Was the cake not to your liking? That reminds me of a Swedish friend here in CA, who placed 5 steaks on the table, and then heard the police car outside. All kids ran out, and their dog, gobbled all 5 steaks in 3 minutes!
August 3, 2009 at 04:05
I bet you will be very well behaved
I love your sweet face
August 3, 2009 at 05:47
Yes, I can see why that look would get you forgiven for just about anything every time! You look very happy!
August 3, 2009 at 11:23
Well, Frodo’s often in trouble for pinching food – in fact we can’t trust any of our dogs – our fault for having Dalmatians and Labradors!
Love the beseeching expression – do you think dogs practise when we’re not looking?
August 3, 2009 at 11:45
He just wants to celebrate too!
August 3, 2009 at 14:41
What a beautiful dog. And quite smart… any creature that can steal the food from your plate and redeem themselves with just a look is brilliant. I must work on this technique with my hubby.
August 3, 2009 at 15:16
He is adorable!
August 3, 2009 at 17:10
I’m in LOVE with that FACE!!!!! What a cutie. He can eat my cake anytime – well, okay, not ANYtime, but when I’m gettin’ ready to throw the rest away, he’s welcome to that………little.tiny.crumb. Happy BIRTHDAY to the Anklebiter!!!!
August 3, 2009 at 21:12
Ate the snake’s head? LOL
August 4, 2009 at 07:03
What a doll. Yes, with a face like that all would be forgiven.
August 4, 2009 at 14:17
Nope, couldn’t stay mad at a face like that!!
August 4, 2009 at 16:38
Who can refuse that sweet face! Sounds like he has a sweet tooth.
August 4, 2009 at 17:55
